Millstreet juggling fun games and visitors

Thursday, 10th July, 2014 1:00am

Millstreet will juggle circus acts, parades and thousands of visitors while once again hosting the European Juggling Convention (EJC) from 19 to 26 July.

This is the world's largest juggling and circus arts events which will attract up to 3,500 international visitors for the week long festival and is estimated to be worth €5 million to the local economy.

The EJC attracts the world's most talented circus and juggling artists from the USA, Australia, Germany, the UK, France, Holland, Argentina and New Zealand.

It not only attracts amateur and professional jugglers from across the world, but also sees a number of events open to the public including a Family Day on Tuesday 22 July.

"Cork County Council is delighted to be supporting this distinctive event and I am please that Millstreet has been chosen once again to host the European Juggling Convention. This event was previously held here in 2006 and is still remembered by the people of Cork and further afield due to its unique ethos and the element of fun and adventure that surrounds the event," said Mayor of Cork County, Cllr Alan Coleman speaking at the launch event earlier this week.

There will be plenty of activities for families, including the Family Day, as well as a parade through the town followed by the Juggling Olympics on Saturday 26 July. There will also be workshops running throughout the week for the whole family as well as circus shows on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 July.

As well as master classes from circus artists and jugglers of international renown, there will also be workshops in every circus discipline imaginable - including juggling, spinning, acrobatics, unicyle, cyr wheel and many more. The 'Juggling Legends' are also set to perform in a one-off show.

The ECJ is the world's largest juggling and circus arts event and is held every year in a different country. Ireland last hosted it in 2006, also in Millstreet. The largest ever EJC was held in Munich, Germany in 2011 and attracted 7,200 jugglers.

EJC takes place in the Green Glens Arena in Millstreet from 19 to 26 July and day passes to the festival and show tickets are available at the Green Glens Box Office. See www.ejc2014.org for more information.
