Retail giant TK Maxx has announced that it is to create 120 jobs in Cork with the opening of its new store in the city next month.

The "designer brands-for-less" outlet is set to open its doors on Cornmarket Street on August 21 and will stock a vast range of designer fashion, home and gift items at up to 60 per cent less than their recommended retail price. TK Maxx says it is able to offer these items at lower prices because of its no-frills concept and opportunistic buying approach.

The Cork store will be the twelfth TK Maxx to open in Ireland and will boast almost 35,000 square feet of retail space, making it the second biggest store in the country just behind the outlet in Blanchardstown.

Consumers can expect to see all the same departments in the new store which are present in the other stores across the country as well as a larger Kids Maxx, an extended shoe department, a new jewellery counter and a furniture department.

The Cork store will have up to 50, 000 items in stock at any one time and will receive in the region of 10,000 new items every week to ensure that customers will be able to find new stock each time they visit.

While the company have not revealed which brands will be available in the Cork store it's expected that it will carry similar designers to its other Irish stores including Cynthia Rowley, C by Chloe and Ted Baker.

Speaking in advance of the opening, Spokesperson for TK Maxx, Victoria Wright said, "This new store makes us feel particularly house proud. It's Tk Maxx like you've never seen it before with more than 5,000 designer labels to choose from and 10,0000 new pieces arriving every week. There are still no waterfalls or marble floors though; we'd rather pass on the savings to our customers."
