That was then, but now ten years on Barry Design are happily ensconced in their own premises in EastGate. For Jim, the growth in the company and the establishment of ProPrint has meant him taking on a more managerial role looking after clients and pricing jobs but he's proud of the environment the company creates.

"I don't feel like a boss. I've been very lucky that I've met and worked with some very good people over the years. It's more like a group of friends really, we are a young, enthusiastic team and I think that comes across to customers too. We look after them and people always appreciate that".

The company now employs a full-time web designer and that side of the business has seen tremendous growth. "Every company has to have a website now," says Jim, "you can't do without one if you are serious about business. We have seen that side of things really take off".

During the last 12 years Barry Design has grown to accommodate clients from Cork, Limerick, Dublin and even into Northern Ireland.

"What makes our business so enjoyable and fascinating is the variety of businesses we cater for. We produce brochures, flyers, stationery etc for the education, retail, leisure and the catering sectors.

"We're also very proud of the fact that when we acquire new clients they rarely leave. A lot of our clients have been with us since the start," says Jim.

And with PrintPro the printed end of things are well covered too. They can produce anything from small leaflets to billboard posters and in keeping with Jim's own approach, no job is too big or too small.

"If you want a couple of posters or a million leaflets we will give every customer our full attention, he says.

In these tougher times he's also conscious that he can save customers money. "We often have a look at what new clients are spending in their printing budgets and many people are still paying over the odds. It can be something a simple as changing the paper you use for business cards or buying paper in bulk at the start of the year but there are many ways that companies can save on their printing budgets".

Talking to Jim his positive attitude shines through, and you get the feeling that with him at the helm Barry Design couldn't have a better captain for the waters ahead.
