Michéal believes that the Radisson SAS's fantastic location has also been key to its success and said that he believes that this great location will only benefit the hotel more and more into the future. "Little Island is the most understated name for this area and when I first arrived I couldn't believe just how big the area is. Little Island is definitely getting busier all the time which is good news for us. We see a lot of people from the area coming in for coffee and we have redesigned the lounge to make it even more comfortable. When the retail park finishes in Little Island, it can only make us busier, which is great," he said.

Looking to the future, Michéal says that he has many short-term and long-term plans for the Cork hotel. The hotel recently invested in the lounge area and in its state-of-the art gym and will now be taking a close look at their restaurant where they will be looking at ways to improve their dining product.

They will also be looking to increase their domestic and international market even further in the future, a task which is helped greatly by the Radisson's Goldpoints reward scheme. "The domestic market is massive for us and accounts for 60 to 70 per cent of our business. I think part of this is because of the fact that the Radisson is an internationally recognised brand which means that people accept a certain standard from us and when they come here they get just that. This is a huge bonus for us," he said.

Asked if he expected big changes in the hotel industry over the months ahead, Michéal said that change would be inevitable but, that the Radisson SAS in Cork was well equipped to move with the times. " In hotels you need to be able to constantly change and if you don't you'll be left behind. In my opinion I don't think the Radisson will be affected by any slowdown because of its international brand, reputation and unique product, however, I believe some of the independent hotels may face some challenges ahead," he said.

Concluding he added, "We have seen a lot of hotels come on the markets in recent months which wouldn't have been heard of five years ago when people were trying to buy licenses anywhere to open a hotel somewhere else. The hotel business is constantly changing and you have to keep up with it to continue to be successful. Right now the Radisson in Cork is doing well and I will be working to ensure its stays successful."
