Through hard work and graft he has also built up one of the most successful Independent Mortgage Brokerage's in the Country. Michael adds, "With our mortgage vehicle Douglas Mortgage Centre and douglasmortgage.ie, it has put us in a unique position to deliver mortgage and re-mortgage advice to thousands of people over the past 10 years. People need to remember that what sets us apart from our competitors is that we have agencies and access to over 20 different banks, building societies, Investment Companies etc. Whereas a lot of brokers might have preferential agreements with one or two lenders we never needed to go down that road.

"When we started we had to approach the banks on the clients behalf, nowadays they send their people into us and bid for the business. People need to check their interest rates at least twice a year to ensure they're on the right package, or else just call us and we'll negotiate on your behalf."

With a thriving business boasting many different facets, not to mention the fact that he also recently became a father for the first time, Michael's optimism is well founded. "I have a beautiful baby girl, Alison, who is just four months old (he lives with Alison and his wife, Ciara, in West Passage)," he proudly tells the Cork Independent.

Michael and his staff are based in Douglas a place he clearly has a lot of affection for. "I had been with Joe from the start," he says, "and when the chence came up to take charge of the branch here I jumped at it. Douglas really is where it's at, for me it was the only option and I couldn't be happier".
