For Ray a career in flooring may well have been predestined. His father began the very successful Glasheen Carpets business which he still runs today. It was there that Ray served his apprenticeship in the flooring business gaining invaluable hands on experience.

From the family business he headed over to the United States where he spent two and a half years in Connecticut. While in New England he worked installing hardwood floors which clearly made an impression on him. Upon his return he went back to working for the family business for while before heading out on his own in 1994 when he set up O'Flynn's Flooring.
