Page 1 of 2 Since taking up his role as Regional Director of Bus Éireann in Cork, Mr Joe Fitzgerald has witnessed exceptional growth in the company.
A civil engineer by training, Mr Fitzgerald first took up the position as the Southern Regional Director at Bus Éireann over ten years ago and has seen the company add a multitude of new services to its existing portfolio as well witnessing the transformation of the city station at Parnell Place. Bus Éireann operates a fleet of more than 230 buses in Cork and offers a full range of city and suburban services with more than 300 departures from the station at Parnell Place every day. In fact more than 12.5 million customers travelled on Bus Éireann’s many routes last year with more than 3.4 million passengers passing through the Cork City station alone. Departures from the station include hourly services to many of Ireland’s hub cities including Dublin, Limerick, Kerry, Galway and Waterford as well as Eurolines coach services to Britain and Europe and city tour buses. The company also operates a vast number of city and suburban routes including two new services; the 10A route which operates from the City Centre (South Mall) to Mahon Point and Jacobs Island via Boreenmanna Road and the new 16 bus service which operates from City Centre (South Mall) to Clarkes Hill (Mount Oval) via Rochestown Road returning to the City Centre via Garryduff, Maryborough Hill and Douglas.
Bus Éireann also provides frequent direct coach services between Cork Airport and bus station at Parnell Place as well as routes which service the city’s third level institutions, hospitals and shopping centres.
