"We handle promotions on behalf of clients, anything from official openings to leaflet distribution to product placement. Like I said, we need to be able to offer the full package when handling a client's communications plan," Mark told us. The rest of the team includes two fully qualified graphic designers, three account executives, an accountant, customer service co-ordinator and IT specialist. "We value them - I want to put that into print!" he said.

When asked what he feels Hopkins Communications has contributed to its clients Hopkins told us, "We've built brands and help companies get started. We strive to ensure that every piece of creative work, every article written, lends credibility to an organisation and its products, and is based on fact, not spin.

"We are not afraid to ask the hard questions and try to keep our fingers on the pulse of what's happening that will affect our customers in a positive or negative way. New, creative, workable ideas are crucial. That can be a hard task with so many media channels vying for people's attention. Campaigns have to be very tightly focused at specific target markets."

The portfolio of clients at Hopkins Communications include Barry Fitzwilliam Maxxium. "They are an amazing company," Mark says. "They have over 80 leading drinks brands and we handle the national advertising for the active ones.

These include Corona Extra, Jägermeister, Mont Gras and Michel Lynch wines and others'. The company also handles Mocad Golf nationally, Kingsley Recruitment, Cogans of Carrigaline, Express Kitchens and Floors, The Dublin Door Store, Acme Blinds and several other local and national consumer brands.

"On the PR side we handle IIB Bank and IIB Homeloans, PR requirements for Cork, Limerick and Galway, Cork City Enterprise Board, HLB Nathans Accountants, Star Sailing and a number of private clients," he told us. "Basically we are agents for all media options in the country, including RTÉ, Irish Times, Independent Newspapers, Golden Pages and all the others. We insist on the best rates for our clients and have the buying power to do so, adding value wherever possible in terms of public relations, promotions and competitions."
