Cork businesses are being urged to investigate opportunities in Poland following a recent trade mission to the country in which 15 Cork companies participated.

A business seminar, 'Doing Vusiness in Poland', preceded by a Wroclaw Business Matching event, featured the Ambassador of Ireland to Poland, His Excellency, Declan O' Donovan, who spoke highly of the 'vibrant European market'.

The Cork delegation travelled to Poland seeking partnerships and export opportunities. The event was organised by the Wroclaw Chamber of Commerce in order to facilitate introductions and networking between potential business partners from Poland, Ireland, Canada and Japan.

Each Cork company had a number of meetings with interested Polish counterparts with a view to generating business. Sectors represented at the event included packaging, architectural services and engineering as well as environmental services and furniture.

Speaking at the event, Brian Casserly of Irish Packaging, a Glanmire based company said, "This event represents a major opportunity for small companies like mine to gain facilitated access to a major market with many similarities to Ireland. I have met with a number of companies that are interested in doing business and I expect that I will receive several orders before the end of our visit".

Mayor of County Cork, Councillor Noel Harrington, who led the Cork delegation, expressed his satisfaction with the event and the potential for the companies involved. "Cork County Council is delighted to facilitate this business matching event with our local Trading Link Cork partners, the Enterprise Boards and Cork Chamber. We see this exercise as one of exposing small firms to the many opportunities that European Union expansion provides. We expect that it will be the start of business relationships in a number of sectors that will lead to orders and jobs in Cork."

Cathy O'Sullivan, Cork Chamber, added, "Companies often comment that the combination of information seminars and face-to-face business meetings, as well as introductions to key players on the ground in the market, are of huge value to them. As a joint initiative, Trading Link Cork, can make this happen in a professional and cost-effective manner for all concerned. Poland can boast significant opportunities across many sectors right now, so it was a clear destination choice for this visit".
