Two Cork firms are embarking on a State Agency Enterprise Ireland arranged industry mission to California’s Silicon Valley in the hope of securing significant business opportunities.

The Silicon Valley Trade Mission, which is being led by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin, TD, is targeting San Jose and Palo Alto in the valley along with San Francisco and will see discussions taking place with some of the main players in the development of new technology.

Speaking at the start of the Mission Minister Martin welcomed the participation of SensL from the Blackrock Rd and Bard na nGleann from Ballingeary. “These two Cork firms have become world leaders in their specialised fields and as a result are providing quality jobs for their local communities. SensL, which provides a range of solid state low lighting, photon counting and imaging products, recently opened an office in Palo Alto and its participation in the mission is the next step to securing new business there.

Continuing, the Minister said, “Bard na nGleann has become a world leader in the development of technical documents for leading IT companies. The expertise developed in Ballingeary allows their customers to focus on core business and let Bard handled support work. Ireland is now the 10th largest investor in the United States with Irish firms employing over 80,000 people in the US. This is a remarkable achievement by Irish industry with the support of Enterprise Ireland.

“Over the coming days I look forward to meeting many of these firms and their American customers and partners. It is my hope that the Cork companies and the other participants on the mission will be able to use this opportunity to network, expand their client base and to generate new business that will continue to secure jobs at home,” concluded Minister Martin.
