Up to €10 million is expected to be invested by Cork and fellow Munster businesses in the renewable and alternative energy sector over the coming months.

The expected investment follows the recent Davy Private Clients Annual Cork Investment Conference, held in the Sheraton Hotel Fota Island, during which prominent business leaders in the Cork area were advised of the significant potential in the renewable and alternative energy sector.

The conference was hosted by Davy’s Southern Office, which opened in May 2004 and is now the largest regional stockbroking and wealth management office in Ireland with a team of 14 dedicated investment professionals managing in excess of €400 million in client assets from its base at South Mall in Cork City.

According to research published this week by Davy Research, investment in the renewable energy sector has proven highly lucrative in recent years. Higher commodity prices, reducing fossil-fuel supply and a general governmental acceptance around the implications of climate change are combining to make the sector extremely sought after from an investor’s viewpoint.

In response to this trend, Davy has identified a portfolio of extremely lucrative alternative investment opportunities in the renewable and energy space which, in partnership with a specialist global energy and renewables group, will be brought to the investor community in Cork by Davy’s Southern Office.

This year’s conference is the fourth such annual event held for Davy clients in the Cork and surrounding areas since Davy opened its Southern office in May 2004. Over 150 prominent business figures from Cork attended the conference, themed Renewable & Alternative Energy. Delegates were addressed by key speakers including Stephen Felle, a director of Davy Private Clients & head of the firm’s regional businesses; Paul Giblin, head of alternative investments at Davy; and Olan Wixted, senior manager for Davy Private Clients in Cork.

In addition to Private Client services, Davy’s Southern Office provides Corporate Finance advisory services to public and private companies in the Cork and wider Munster region.
