Cork Pharmacist Donagh Corby was named the winner of the recently held Teva Patient Awards at the 2009 Helix Health Irish Pharmacist Awards, held at the Mansion House, Dublin. Nine awards were presented on the night, recognising professionals from Counties Clare, Cork, Dublin, Galway, and Mayo who have all demonstrated excellence in their field. Speaking at the Awards, Howard Beggs, CEO of Helix Health said, "Tonight's awards are just a snapshot of the hard work and dedication hundred of pharmacists are demonstrating throughout the country on a daily basis in community, hospital and research settings. The role of the pharmacist has expanded greatly in recent years, they are no longer just dispensaries but instead vital points of contact, advice and assistance". Discussing his win, Donagh said, "Winning the Patient Nominated Award tonight is a considerable honour and I am so pleased my patients felt I deserved this. I'm a firm believer in delivering a professional and understanding service to my patients to ensure they receive the best possible care at all times". An adjudicating panel comprised of respected pharmacists from various branches of the pharmacy profession selected the award winners from three short listed entries in each category. The Pharmacist Awards were set up to support the Benevolent Trust Fund of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland. |
