One of Cork's most famous tourist destinations is undergoing a name change. The Fota Island Resort will, from the 14 September, be renamed the Fota Island Hotel and Spa. The hotel is currently branded as the Sheraton but will now join the other components of Fota Island Resort under the resort's own brand.

Resort management recently decided to end its association with Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc. who own the Sheraton brand. The separation was mutually decided and amicably agreed.

Any reservations made through the Sheraton or Starwood websites or reservation centres will be honoured through to 31 December 2009.
