IT boost for Cork E-mail

The Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Micheál Martin TD  announced on Thursday last (February 28) details of Enterprise Ireland’s €50 million boost to regional economic development which is set to hugely benefit Cork IT.

Cork  IT  is  eligible  for  a  share of the €50 million which will support enterprise-focused activity in Cork and the surrounding areas in from of; funding the purchase of industry-relevant research equipment, providing more incubation space for start-up companies and establishing market-focused research groups in Cork IT.

Minister Martin said, “Balanced regional development is a Government priority and the Institutes of  Technology  have  a  unique and critical role to play in achieving this goal.  

The  Government  Strategy  for  Science,  Technology  &  Innovation recommended  that  we  focus  on  building  up  the research and innovation functions of Institutes such as Cork IT so that it can nurture new start-up companies  and  develop innovative solutions for existing companies in Cork and the surrounding areas”.

In addition, Feargal Ó Móráin, Executive Director of Enterprise Ireland said, “Enterprise  Ireland has invested over €100 million into the development of strong  companies in locations around Ireland through our programmes in the Institutes of Technology. 

“We see Cork IT as a key partner in our effort to increase productivity, exports and jobs in towns around Ireland”.
