Kepak Group are to become the supplier of Tesco-branded 'convenience food' products to 284 Tesco stores in the UK. The deal is said to be worth an estimated &euro1 million in the first year with the possibility of the range extending to more stores throughout the UK in the coming years.The announcement is the culmination of many months of development work in conjunction with Tesco Ireland following the successful introduction of similar products to stores in Ireland. John Horgan, Managing Director, Kepak Group, said, "We are delighted to have secured this business on the strength of our trading success with Tesco Ireland. In the current economic climate this is a very welcome boost to all our staff at Kepak Cork and to Kepak Group. This relationship proves that with the right product and the right retail partner it is possible to continue to expand into new markets and sectors". Tony Keohane, Chief Executive, Tesco Ireland, added, "Today's announcement shows the opportunity that exists for Irish suppliers where, with the right product, there are endless possibilities in Tesco stores in Ireland and throughout the rest of the world. It is a very tangible example of the &euro655 million worth of Irish food exports which we generate each year". In 2005 Kepak Group, supported by Enterprise Ireland, invested &euro5m in their Cork Plant in Watergrasshill and launched a range of 'Heat and Serve' precooked meal solutions. These convenience consumer-ready products are devised to fill a gap in the market place for wholesome, traditional recipe meat roasts and casseroles, targeted at a time poor society. |
