While many businesses continue to struggle in these straightened times, many others have successfully managed to turn the economic climate to their advantage. This week Mary O'Keeffe speaks with Tomas O'Sullivan, Managing Director of Cork Sheds about how his business is continuing to blossom despite the recession.

While there is no denying that many companies have been badly burnt by the economic crisis, many of these have now firmly set themselves on the path back to recovery and are well-positioned to enter into the post-recession growth period. In fact, for the many companies who tried to work with the recession rather than against it, this period of growth has already begun.

One company which claims that things are already looking up is Cork Sheds. Located on the Bandon Road Roundabout, Cork Sheds provides a huge range of building solutions from garden sheds to storage units, home offices, big garages and workshops.

According to Managing Director, Tomas O'Sullivan, the domestic arm of his business had been steadily growing in the run-up to the downturn but, is now actually growing at a much faster rate- something he credits to the quality of his product, the value for money he is offering and importantly a stark change in the public's want for a product which will truly stand the test of time.

Tomas himself is no stranger to the world of metal fabrication and since a young teen has had a keen interest in his trade. This no doubt has contributed to his firm belief that your customers should only be offered products that you are proud of, something which is evident in the quality of the products he is offering. Again, Tomas says that he believes that all his products have to be priced keenly so as to ensure you can reach the widest customer market at all times.

As mentioned earlier, shifts in the want and need for a certain type of product have also greatly helped Cork Sheds to grow and this, according to Tomas, is something which can be credited to the downturn. "The state of the economy to date is actually suiting us. During the Celtic Tiger era a lot of timber sheds were being bought but, this is changing," he said. The Director said that while many of these sheds would have served people well in the short term that they were never going to be a long term solution and said that many people, annoyed with how little time they got out of their timber sheds, were now looking at investing their money in his steel sheds which will stand the test of time.

Looking to the future, Tomas said that while things are already looking up at Cork Sheds, he is confident that there is still room for a lot more growth in the market. In fact, with calls coming from as far as Dublin for their products, they may well have to look at serious expansion in the future. Concluding he added, "all I can day is it's onwards and upwards for Cork Sheds."
