Two new training programmes are due to commence in the South and East Cork area in early February. South and East Cork Area Development (SECAD) is inviting application from individuals to participate in the SECAD Community Training Programme 2010.

Topics covered will include Governance for community groups; roles and responsibilities within your group; financial management of your community group; effective communication within a community group; promoting your community group – PR and influencing policy; committee skills training and the roles of officers; conducting a needs analysis and self evaluation and practical aspects of fundraising and funding proposal writing.

The workshops will commence in early February and will be held in community venues in Douglas, Glounthaune and Midleton. In most cases workshops will be held both in the morning and evening to ensure that volunteers will find a time and a venue that is suitable for them.

SECAD also currently has funding available to aid local enhancement projects. The funding was secured under the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013. Applicants who are seeking capital funding from SECAD will be required to submit a Village/Area Enhancement Plan to support their application.

In response to this requirement, SECAD will be offering a training programme on the theme of village and area enhancement to run from February to May 2010. The training programme, which will be presented by John Cronin and Associates, is designed to provide targeted assistance and direction to local community groups as they prepare individual village and area enhancement plans. The training programme will include training sessions, a filed trip and a mentoring service and will be provided at three regional centres: Carrigtwohill, Carrigaline and Garryvoe.
