Small to medium business enterprises in Cork are being targeted by the internet service provider formely known as NTL with a broadband package that includes telephony, hosting and e-mail from r49 a month. It is claimed that the UPC Business deal, which is only available in Cork, Dublin, Galway and Waterford, could save companies as much as €1,200 per annum compared to rival products from Eircom. UPC's new SME offerings include broadband access at speeds ranging from 2Mb to 6Mb, along with bundled telephony and value added services such as static IP support, hosted storage and secured e-mail services tailored for SMEs. The bundles will be sold through a number of key UPC partners and will initially be available to more than 56,000 identified SMEs in Dublin, Galway and Waterford. UPC plans to extend the geographic area covered with the bundles to Limerick, Cork, Kildare, Athlone, Portlaoise, Carlow and Kilkenny early in 2008. Com Reg recently reported that 89% of an estimated 161,000 companies registered in Ireland are now connected to the Internet, while 69% of those now have a broadband connection. However, Internet access among SMEs is estimated to have increased by about 10% since the Comreg survey data was collected. Over the past 18 months, UPC has invested more than €300 million in laying the foundations of its next generation networks, which it says will deliver advanced new services to Ireland's business community. Sarah Shearman, UPC Business channel manager says, "We're committed to introducing innovative and competitively priced products that suit the needs of the SME market in Ireland". |
