They say that two heads think better than one and nowhere is this more evident than in business. In fact some of the biggest and best companies have been born out of hugely successful mergers like GSK (Glaxo Wellcome Plc and SmithKline Beecham Plc) and AOL Time Warner. The real beauty of a merger is that it can bring together old and new, traditional values and modern concepts and perhaps, most significantly, it can bring the most experienced and knowledgeable people together to improve their product or service even further.

Vincent Drinan is one such individual who recognised the great growth potential of mergers and set about putting one in place back in 2003. Having spent more than 15 years working within the building supplies sector Vincent, along with two other directors, opened Commercial Drylining Centre Ltd in 2003. Always on the look out on how to increase the company's product / service offering; in 2007 when Cork Timber Slate & Cement Company put its Kyrl's Quay premises on the market, the directors of Commercial Drylining Centre immediately began thinking of what could happen if the well-established Cork company could merge with this prominent business.

Cork Timber Slate & Cement Company first established itself in Cork in 1923 and over the course of its 80 years in business, director Robert Parker built the company into one of Cork's most highly regarded and successful supplies company. Vincent and his fellow colleagues recognised the true potential of a merger between the Cork Timber Slate & Cement Company and Commercial Drylining Centre Ltd and its viability. The directors decided to approach the company to discuss their idea. "Robert decided to sell his premises and so we decided to go after the business and approach Robert to see what we could do," said Vincent.

The discussions were a success; the two companies joined forces in 2007 and Parkers Home Value was born. While established just less than two years now, the company has already built up a trusted reputation across Cork city and county and is regarded highly within the construction and DIY sector.

What makes Parkers Home Value unique, and sets it aside from its competitors, is that not only does it offer a wide range of building supplies and heavy goods but it also supplies dry lining. In addition to this, Parkers Home Value has a retail store which stocks a wide range of floors, heaters, doors, DIY supplies, bathroom suites and is open to members of the public.

Parkers Home Value is run by Vincent Drinan and Robert Parker, the grandson of the original Director of Cork Timber, Slate and Cement, who together have helped the company blossom and develop into what it is today. Vincent says that he and Robert owe the success of the company to date on its focus on customer service. "The most important thing to us here in Parkers Home Value is ensuring our customer is satisfied and we are very focused on providing a friendly, expert service to our customers. We are constantly striving to bring excellent product offerings to our customers, while focusing on important things like being cost competitive in challenging times," he said.

Looking to the future Vincent admitted that, like every business, the company may have to face tough times. He is hopeful that the company will weather the current economic climate and develop even further in the future. "These are tough times to survive in but we are very fortunate to have a very loyal customer base that will help us to continue to grow and we look forward to developing the company further in the future," he said.
