The West Cork chapter of small business networking and support group SOHO Solo has been nominated for an Irish Blog Award just four months after launching it's new web log. The site, which can be found on www.sohosolowestcork.com, provides a mix of articles, links to small business resources and member contributed content. It was set up as part of an initiative by SOHO Solo Ireland, supported by Cork Business Innovation Centre (CorkBIC) and the city and county Enterprise Boards, to revive interest in the West Cork network by harnessing the power of the web and social media both to raise the network's profile online, and as a way to keep members connected between the monthly face-to-face meetings. Since the blog's launch in September, the West Cork chapter has seen attendence at the monthly meetings more than double, and it's still early days according to Calvin Jones, SOHO Solo West Cork co-ordinator and co-author of ‘Understanding Digital Marketing'. "The blog and other social media elements, like Twitter and LinkedIn, are still very much in their infancy, but momentum is building, and we're seeing a lot more interest at the meetings as a result." SOHO Solo is West Cork's only networking group specifically tailored to the needs of the home based entrepreneur or teleworker. It meets once a month in the Celtic Ross Hotel in Rosscarbery. The next meeting takes place on Wednesday, February 18, and will explore how open source software can help home-based businesses to reduce costs and improve productivity. |
