Declan Carey

Declan Carey on his hopes for 2020 as Chairman of Cork City FC.

Main goals for 2020?

To see a passionate Cork crowd back supporting the team in 2020. We need the public to get behind the team from the get-go next season.

Our team will be made up of young, hungry Corkonians who will go that extra mile for the fans.

Predictions for Cork City FC in 2020?

We are rebuilding for sure, but I'm confident we can challenge the top four for European places in 2020.

We left a lot of points behind us in 2019, and with a bit of luck, would have been a lot closer than we finished up.

Most looking forward to in 2020?

Seeing the team in action for the first time, with Neale Fenn and the staff having a full pre-season with them.

Any resolutions?

Forget the past, the only thing you can change is the future.

Was 2019 a good year for you?

Yes and no. Did we learn a lot as a football club? Definitely. There are positives and negatives to having a somewhat poor season last year. We'll be stronger for it in the long run and the lessons learned will stand to us.

What did 2019 teach you?

Expect the unexpected! Last year hit us hard in terms of all round timing and luck.

The unfortunate fire at Douglas is a prime example.

Major highlight of 2019?

The victory over Dundalk at the end of the season. It showed fans what our team can achieve in 2020 with a roaring crowd behind them and an energetic, passionate display on the pitch.

Players to look out for in 2020?

I'm looking forward to seeing how our younger local players like Ronan Hurley and Beineon O'Brien Whitmarsh develop; and how our more experienced players like Gearoid Morrissey fit in under a new playing style and formations. Exciting times!
