One would have to be forgiven for waking up this week and questioning who they are, where they are from and if they would actually be able to cast their vote in the upcoming elections (and I'm not talking about the 2009 locals.)

With what seems like completely saturated coverage of the upcoming elections stateside , I'm sure that I'm not alone in saying that I probably know more about what has been happening with the American Presidential hopefuls then what was happening with any of our local representatives in the Dáil this week and to be honest I've had enough.

There's no denying that the US remains one of the world's most critical superpowers and that whatever happens in our neighbours nation will have repercussions for the whole world, but, that doesn't necessarily mean that we need to or want to know every single detail about which possible nominee said what, who was winning the hearts of which state and which percentage of what vote they were securing.

Over the past few weeks, coverage on the upcoming elections has been increasing steadily and with the dawning of Super Tuesday this week, the coverage really came to a head with local stories being placed behind tales of Clinton's NY victory and Obama's strength in the north east.

Obviously, I agree that this important news should be covered and should be available to the public across the US and the rest of the world, but, I feel that a line is being crossed when it comes to the stage where local stories are being neglected in favour of covering the happenings in the US.
