Ms Dolan worked as a national school teacher from 1984 to 1994 before taking up a position with the INTO in 1994 where she worked directly with Senator Joe O’ Toole, then General Secretary of the INTO. Ms Dolan joined TUI as Assistant General Secretary in 1999. In 2005 Ms Dolan obtained an LLB degree in law and subsequently qualified as barrister at law from the Kings Inn in 2007.

Ms Dolan acknowledges that there are challenging times ahead for all in Irish education.

She states “TUI’s objective is to achieve equality in educational opportunity and ensure the highest standards in educational provision while protecting the conditions of service of teachers and lecturers.

“TUI will continue to vigorously campaign for a level of investment in education that will provide every citizen in this country with the right to an equal, high quality education. Maximum investment in education makes sound economic sense.”

“The appointment of a woman as TUI Deputy General Secretary should not obscure the very significant gender inequalities in the under representation of women at principal and deputy principal level in post-primary schools and colleges as well as in senior positions in the institutes of technology.

“Quite the contrary, Annette Dolan’s appointment is an important step in confronting existing gender inequalities.
