| Forensic Psychology and Policing to be explored at UCC Conference |

The manner in which forensic and investigative psychology can aid in law enforcement will be the focus for discussion at an international conference to be held at University College Cork (UCC) on September 4th and 5th, 2008. The Conference, titled "Applied Forensic & Investigative Psychology as Practical Tools for Law Enforcement" is a major event for police, practitioners, policy makers, academics, students and researchers. The conference is hosted by the Forensic Psychology Research Programme of the Department of Applied Psychology, UCC and is supported by Crimestoppers (1800 25 00 25). The relationship between forensic psychology and policing is a complex one and the principal goal of this conference is to examine how forensic psychology can contribute to policing and investigation through basic and applied research. The conference is designed for those who work within the areas of policing and criminal justice, teachers and students of forensic psychology, and all those for whom a forensic psychological perspective would enhance their work. Keynote speakers include: Special Agent Mary-Ellen O'Toole, Behavioural Analysis Unit, FBI, Quantico, Virginia, USA, Doug Stead, Toddington International, Canada, Earl Moulton, Retired Assistant Commissioner, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Professor David Canter, International Centre for Investigative Psychology, UK. Key senior figures are also expected from: COPINE; Department of Applied Psychology, UCC; School of Medicine, UCC; An Garda Siochana; National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), UK; Centre for the Exploitation and Online Protection of Children (CEOP), UK; Grampian Police; Scotland Violence Reduction Unit; IPOL - National Police Agency of the Netherlands; Irish Prison Service, Forensic Division, Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) and INTERPOL.
