Scoil Nicoláis in Frankfield is in line to get a major extension to cater for the growing student body at the school. The Minister for Education and Science, Batt O'Keeffe TD visited the school recently where he announced that he has given a green light to a 16-classroom extension at the school. The current school has 16-classrooms and was first completed in 2004 to accommodate student numbers in the school at that time. However, since then enrolments have continued to rise and additional classes have been accommodated in temporary prefabricated units on the site. The plan now is to build a further 16-classroom extension to bring the full school accommodation to 32 classrooms plus ancillary accommodation. Speaking at the school, the Minister said, "I'm delighted to be able to give the go-ahead to Scoil Niocláis to build a new 16-classroom extension under the School Building Programme. "This part of the city has undergone very rapid population growth in the past few years and, as a result, enrolments have increased dramatically. "The 16-classroom extension to the school will now address those development pressures and provide outstanding school accommodation to students and teachers. The Minister also paid tribute to the school's board of management, principal, staff, pupils and parents for their work in developing an exceptional centre for learning at Scoil Nicoláis as well as Cork South-Central TDs Minister Micheál Martin and Michael McGrath, for their work in helping to press the case for the new extension at the school. |
