Following extensive research and consultation, Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) has announced the commencement of a new MA programme in the area of digital and interactive media. The MA in Media Design will welcome its first cohort of students in September 2008 in the dynamic and fast-changing area of multimedia.

This new programme has been specifically designed for graduates of multimedia and media design and to meet the needs of the growing global multimedia industry. Announcing the new course Media Communications Head of Department, Rose McGrath, stated that the MA programme was initiated to equip graduates with the skills required in dynamic and fast changing digital media work environments.

"The Media Communications Department in CIT understands the importance of giving students exposure to cutting edge digital media technologies and affording them the opportunity to hone and develop their research and design skills for a fast changing and dynamic industry. We feel the programme we are offering gives multimedia students the chance to work in a challenging yet supportive environment that emphasises creativity, innovation and industry relevance."

The accreditation of this award is also new and innovative as it is jointly accredited by the Irish Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) and the University of Applied Arts, Darmstadt, Germany - a third level institution with whom CIT has developed close working links in recent times. The MA in Media Design is the only such Joint Award in the European Union.

The overall aim of this programme is to produce graduates who can demonstrate a systematic understanding and knowledge of design, development, implementation and research within the expanding digital media sector.
