Bandicoot promotions, fresh from bringing us the awe-inspiring Nomeansno and Oneida, get right back on the rock & roll bandwagon with some more announcements to warm the rockles of our hearts over the coming winter months. One of the giants of Americana, The Handsome Family return to Cork for another show at the Crane Lane on Friday, November 2, after selling out the same venue back in April. Married for 18 years, Brett Sparks writes the music which draws from medieval melody, country-politan string arrangements, tin-pan alley crooners and dusty hillbilly records. Rennie Sparks writes the lyrics about magical realism from polar adventure stories and pagan haunting songs.
Japanese psych collective Acid Mothers Temple have some 30 members depending on the scenario. Whatever the line-up, the fact is when the Temple do land in Cork for a show in the Crane Lane on Tuesday, November 13, we can safely anticipate one of the most exciting gigs of the year. From ear shredding guitar noise to an ambient electronic pulse to traditional Japanese folk to the sweet sound of a handmaiden warbling, this acid-tinged collective will freak out and freak you out in the process.
Caribou make a long overdue return to Cork for yet another show at the Crane Lane on Monday, November 19. With a tendency to lean (gently) towards vague ethereal qualities of shoegaze, blissed out psychedelic infused electronica, folk-like sonic mantras and spiralling percussive beats and blasts, Caribou has earned widespread critical acclaim and a loyal following. The duel-drumming live show takes some beating, and, providing he can replicate the pastoral 60’s pop vibes of his latest record in a live setting, it’s only onwards and upwards for the man who’s mother calls Daniel Snaith.
