The first screening of Bitesize Cinema in Cork City will be taking place at the Triskel Arts Centre today (Thursday, June 4). Run by a London based production company specializing in the art form of short film, Bitesize Cinema filters through thousands of short films to bring movie buffs the stand out films from the international festival circuit, including 35mm masterpieces, digital gems, animation and documentaries.

The Cork Bitesize event will feature four short films from the UK and Sweden. The first of these shorts is Son, a 2008 UK film directed by Daniel Malloy and staring Natalie Press (Red Road). The winner of the Best Short award at the Edinburgh Film Fest 2008, Son is set within the confines of an underground theatre's vaults where a young boy finds himself trapped as the evening's events unfold.

Dog Altogether is Paddy Considine's (Dead Man's Shoes, The Bourne Ultimatum) directorial debut. It tells the story of Joseph, a man who is plagued by a violence and rage that is driving him to self destruction. As he falls further into turmoil Joseph scours the landscape in search of a single grain of redemption that might restore hope to his fractured life. The movie was the recipient of the BAFTA award for Best Short Film in 2008.

A nominee for the Best Short at the European Film Awards in 2007, Swedish film Meander is set on a hot summer day where five adolescents seek refreshment near a river. Whilst we observe their behaviour within the group, the apparently calm day tends to be disrupted. A poetic short film, without dialogue, about a seemingly harmless and innocent day.

The Sickie stars Toby Jones (Frost/Nixon). When events at work prove too stressful for Douglas Knott, a diligent and extremely busy office manager, he decides to throw a sickie. Unfortunately, his attempts to enjoy a day off are soon sabotaged by the insidious voice of his conscience. Literally.
