A Coolaboola Christmas
Formed in 2005 with the sole aim of giving under-age music fans in Cork an ample opportunity to experience music they dig in a live setting, Coolaboola’s cause was certainly noble. Nearly three years on and the girls can rightly feel pleased with their substantial efforts to date, having brought a host of indie-rock bands to Cork kids (Fred, Ian Whitty, Lotus Lullaby and The Shades to name but a few). The jewel in the Coolaboola crown has always been their annual Christmas bash and this years event could be the best yet, with Fight Like Apes, tipped by many to break out in 2008, vacating their Dublin residences to headline the show on Thursday, December 27.

The Dublin four-piece arrived on the scene sometime over the last year with their breakthrough single Lend Me Your Face, racking up the myspace hits and creating a buzz in the process. Their pants-around-the-ankles, synth-bashing live show only served to further cement the band buzz-worthiness and pretty soon, everyone was asking who these Apes were. Recently the band have returned from their ArtRocker tour of the UK, and with two Meteor Award nominations to their name the furtures looking bright. Expect synth-punk-pop culled from their debut EP and it’s successor David Carrodine Is A Bounty Hunter Whose Robotic Arm Hates Your Crotch. Support on the night comes from The Avalanche Effect and Fade to Flame.

The Coolaboola ladies will also be raffling off a big Coolaboola Christmas Hamper full of CD’s and merchandise of bands who have played the gigs over the years, as well as lots of other goodies. The gig is taking place in order to raise money for a really big gig next year to celebrate three years of Coolaboola Events, so show your support.

Live at the Lobby
The Lobby may be gone, but its spirit lives on through the Live at the Lobby Series! The next series kicks off tomorrow at the Half-Moon with ex-Tea Party frontman Jeff Matrin who ushers in six days days of varied musical delights culled from the fertile Cork music scene. Digi-dub electro crew Wiggle are next up on Saturday, December 22. Folk singer-songwriter Niall Connolly and band play on Sunday, December 23 while Delearyus Productions presents Homegrown, a showcase of live electronic music, featuring Dancepig (Berlin/Waterford), Nellboy (Montreal/Cork), Dr. Fudge (Cork) and live visuals from VJ Present on Friday, December 28. Punk rock & rollers Rulers of the Planet break their recent silence with a show on Saturday, December 29 and The Lynch Mob round off proceedings on Monday, December 31.

Panto Sason!
Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum! You know what time of year it is, right? Oh yes you do (sorry, it won’t happen again). CADA and the Everyman Palace Theatre have teamed up once more for the 2007 panto season to bring audiences an all new version of the traditional fairy tale,  Jack and the Beanstalk! The much loved panto at the Palace has been produced jointly by CADA and the Everyman Palace Theatre for the last 13 years, becoming a highly anticipated event in Corks’ entertainment calendar. Jack and the Beanstalk which opened for 44 performances from at the beginning of December has already broken all box office records to date, taking in double the  pre sales of last years panto, Sleeping Beauty, which itself broke all box office records for a Christmas show at the theatre.
