As well as fringe concerts there are also a vast number of public performances going on in various locations around the city, including locations such as Bishopstown Library on Thursday, May 1, Mahon Point Shopping Centre on Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2, along with Paul Street Shopping Centre on Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2. Along with concerts and public performances there are also church interchange and church visits being held over the festival weekend in various different churches throughout the city. Cork Coral Festival also holds concerts in schools around Cork City and County every year with performances by visiting choirs, where different musical soundings and different cultures are brought into the classrooms of the children. Since 1998, teachers and students have been given the opportunity to study with a professional composer throughout the school year. The scheme is specifically designed for the senior cycle particularly if students have chosen music as a higher elective in the leaving certificate. Students are required to listen to different genres of music and then must discuss and analyze the piece. For more information on the festival you can visit their website www.corkchoral.ie. |
