Industrial noise-core Hip-Hop from New Jersey, Dalek can be all things to all people. Signed to Mike Patton's Ipecac label, Dalek create dense, harsh atmospherics hovering meancingly somewhere between Public Enemy and My Blooduy Valentine. The diverse influences that inform their music has allowed for them to collaborate with a wide variety of artists such as krautrock legends Faust, Techno Animal (ex-Godflesh), Kid 606, Zu and Isis. Past tours meanwhile have seen them share the stage with the Melvins, Prince Paul, Isis, Dillinger Escape Plan, De La Soul, Tomahawk, Pharcyde and Fantomas, underlining just how diverse the bands sound actually is.
To say the duo are a formidable live proposition would be akin to describing the current state of the Irish economy as 'somewhat under the weather'. Driving the decibel levels to new, ferocious height's, their claustrophobic cacophony rattles cavities and rib-cages, their vast, festering swathes of sheet-metal music unbridled in its fury. All considered, the group need no help in getting their point across. So, to hear that the equally caustic Destructo Swarmbots, creators of monolithic, droning, meditative ambient white-noise-frequency soundscapes, are joining the Dalek duo for live proceedings on the current tour is exciting news indeed. It should make for an unforgettable trance-like experience, a microcosmic expansion on the possibilities of minimalism and tone, all set to the forceful vitriolic raps of MC Dalek. This unmissable show is taking place at Cyprus Avenue on Saturday, November 29.
