Ed Byrne’s CV reads like a ‘what’s what’ in the comedy game.
From his live stand-up performances which have seen him take in Dublin’s Gaiety and Ambassador Theatres, London’s West End, the Just for Laughs festival (and tour), the US Comedy Arts Festival as well as shows in Paris, Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Belgium and New Zealand, to his television appearances on Father Ted, The Panel, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Late Night With Conan O’Brien (five times no less) and the six part series Ed Byrne Just For Laughs, the Dublin born comedian has been around the block enough times to know how to get the laughs.
In 2006 Byrne was given the enormous honor of hosting the 2006 Just For Laughs Festival (Montreal) Irish Gala at the St Denis Theatre. Following this Ed performed his latest show, Standing Up & Falling Down at the Edinburgh Festival where he was the biggest selling comedy show. He has since been on a promotional tour with this show promoting his first ever stand up DVD, Pedantic & Whimsical. During 2007 Ed performed a hugely successful residency with Standing Up & Falling Down at Riverside Studios followed by April and May performing this show at the Melbourne and New Zealand comedy festivals to capacity audiences. Currently in the process of writing a sitcom with fellow Irish comic and Panel member Andrew Maxwell about two gay men who begin living together after meeting on a comedy panel show about owls (??), Byrne has another typically busy year ahead in 2008 with further festival appearances. He’s also performing at the City Limits Comedy Club on Sunday, March 23.
