The Firkin Crane, Shandon, are celebrating the closure of the first phase of their Professional Dance Residency Programme this week by inviting members of the public to take a glimpse at the world of contemporary dance in the making in their 'Fly on the Wall' drop-in sessions. Blank Canvas was conceived in 2008 and launched in 2009, giving artists carte blanche in allowing their creative ideas to blossom with every possible support from the Firkin Crane. Following a highly competitive selection process by a panel of dance experts 11 artists, from 29 applications worldwide, were invited to part-take in this year's residency programme. The programme began in with the first four independent dance artists, Catherine Young, Inma Moya Pavon, Laura Murphy and Ursula Chapman. The drop in sessions kicked off earlier this week and will conclude today (Thursday, June 4) between 12 and 3pm. Tomorrow, Friday, June 5, an event entitled Fly On The Wall, Off The Wall, will see all four artists come together to present, share and perhaps reveal some surprises from their four month residencies at the Firkin Crane. Further Blank Canvas sessions are scheduled to take place over the months of July, August and November and will feature dance artists Liz Lea from London, Matthew Morris from Berlin, Carlos Cortes from Spain and Nick Bryson and Cristina Goletti of the Legitimate Bodies Dance Company among others. Throughout the individual residencies the Firkin Crane aims to provide a supportive environment to germinate creative endeavours, build bridges amongst artists allowing for professional exchange, exploration, and artistic growth. |
