Regarded as Shakespeare's most dynamic and blood-thirsty play, Macbeth is still to this day held up as perhaps the Bards most enduringly popular production with audiences both young and old alike. It's standing, even among the most ardent of non-theatrical types, is not all that surprising when one considers the premises. It is a play of casual slaughter, where death is dealt out with consummate ease. It is a world where trust and truth and loyalty are cast aside in the lust for power, a world where everywhere, 'there's daggers in men's smiles'. In this haunted, evil world of secret, black and midnight hags, who promise him the crown, Macbeth follows his fatal ambition, driven to the murder of the King by his most persuasive wife. Second Age Theatre's ambitious production brings an 18-strong cast to the Everyman Palace Theatre from February, Tuesday 5 until Friday, February 8. |
