What's in a name? Not much some would say, but, when you've been christened with the curious moniker of ManBodyWomanHead one things for sure - you're certainly not being given a leg-up in life.

Chances are you'll have to fight hard to be taken seriously by anyone. Thankfully for the music promoters known as the aforementioned ManBodyWomanHead, they've learned to use all the skills they have at their disposal, having flexed their collective man muscles and utilised their wily woman head to come up trumps with some rather tasty gigs in the cosy confines of the Whiskey.

This week sees a double dose of MBWH action coming our way with the arrival of French neu-wave synth rockers Marvin on Thursday, May 15 and the slanted and enchanted pop of Kill Rock Stars approved Panther on Tuesday, May 20. Marvin arrive on our doorstep during their extensive tour which will also see them share the stage with legendary no-wave pioneers Devo and Thrill Jockey's classic synth/classic rock crossover gurus Trans Am. Citing math-rockers Oxes and Shellac as well as Krautrockers Can and Kraftwerk as predominant influences Marvin apply the dizzying and discordant technicalities of the former with the moto-tronic drive of the later to form a barrage of vintage synth noise and searing guitar riffs. Support on the night comes from Cork instrumental crew Heliopause.

Panther represent classic stock from the influential Kill Rock Stars label – namely skewed, left-of-field indie rock. Formerly a one man operation, Panther started generating a buzz on the back of two albums, a half dozen eye catching videos, a genuine dance movement he could call his own, as well as tours with a host of well known bands such as Peaches, Ratatat and the Gossip. With a new member onboard Panther have since upped the ante pushing the boundaries of their own sound out further.

Artful, and sometime obtuse, Panther's off-kilter falsetto-inflected indie-funk may not be for everyone, but those who make the trek out on Tuesday, May 20 are in for a show to remember.
