The Murphy's Live event reaches its conclusion with just two bands now remaining. The final, which takes place at the Savoy in Cork follows a mammoth campaign that saw over four hundred and fifty band entries and seven nationwide heats. The two remaining bands are Bravado from Dublin and Gorbachov from Waterford, both of whom will battle it out tonight (Thursday May 15), for the chance to pocket the not inconsiderable sum of €10,000 and the accolade of being named Murphy's Live 2008 Winners. Joining the two Irish groups on the night will be current NME poster-boys The Enemy. Having hit the number one spot in the UK album charts with their debut LP We'll Live & Die In These Towns, the Coventry three-piece then scooped the NME award for Best New Band and an XFM award for Best British Debut Album Of 2007. Gigs with the Rolling Stones, Manic Street Preachers, Sterophonics, Kasabian, Ash and Dirty Pretty Things have ensured their status continues to rise unabated. Hailing from Dublin, indie-rock five piece Bravado have been together just seven months. Their driving guitars and raw vocals are reminiscent of their key musical influences, which include The Who, Arctic Monkeys and The Libertines. Gorbachov are a five-piece guitar rock outfit from Waterford. The band have been together for four years, performing across Ireland and the UK, supporting bands such as The Frames and The Blizzards. They have just begun recording their debut album in the UK. The final is free but ticketed – log on to www.murphyslive.com or call 01 6787090 to apply for tickets. |
