"The study programme in 1st yr consists of one month blocks where the student gets an opportunity to have an in depth look at colour, and shape from a 2d and 3d context in the studio. At this stage art history and a minor study where the student can take photography, ceramics, glass, foundry and print or multi-media or a combination of some or all which ever best enhances their studio work. 2nd and 3rd have both a studio component and art history but at this point the student needs to have a clearer picture where they intend to work from now on.

Broadly speaking this generally means two or three dimensional work. 3rdyr is pivitol in this very exciting and challenging process by now students are expected to have reached a high standard of creative development in the studio and a more in depth knowledge of Art History. Gallery visits both in Ireland and abroad as well as field trips into the Irish landscape are an integral part of the study programme at all levels. A student exchange programme exists in operation where some 2nd and/or 3rd year students do a 3 month stint at a college in the UK or mainland Europe. The present 3rd yr group is a very vibrant mix of individuals doing very diverse and interesting work.

Anthony Ruby, one of the cities most eminent talents to emerge from the Crawford College having studied Fine Art, says his time spent there proved to be a vital learning experience. "The Crawford was a place that really made me push myself with regards to how you would form the ideas for and consolidate an image. It was a an environment of youth and a crash course in diverse personalities.

The college was a major experience whether it went well or not for you. Personally, I enjoyed the whole time there. The students at time that I was there were all incredibly different and there was a great amount of experimenting with different forms and media."

You can see tomorrows talents at the James Barry Exhibition Centre, CIT, Bishopstown from tomorrow for three weeks.
