Christmas comes early for Ballincollig passengers

Wednesday, 29th November, 2017 5:28pm

Ballincollig commuters are set for an early Christmas present as bus fares are set to drop by up to 46 per cent from this Friday 1 December.
Cork North West TD Aindrias Moynihan announced the news ahead of the proposed reduction in bus fares following the decision of the National Transport Authority (NTA) to extend the city fare zone to Ballincollig and other suburbs of the city.

“Those who make use of Leap cards will see major reductions in their weekly commuter costs,” Deputy Moynihan said.

“I would advise people who aren’t currently using Leap cards to really consider making the switch. There are massive savings to be made with using a Leap card.

“There are approximately 4,000 daily bus journeys between Ballincollig and Cork City and vice versa on the 220 and 220X services. Those who use the service daily will see major savings.

“If you are a student or are working in the city and living in Ballincollig, it’s definitely worth getting a Leap card,” he said.

Deputy Moynihan finished by calling on Bus Éireann to invest in increased capacity and frequency to ensure consumer confidence and cope with any increase in public transport services.
