It’s take off for food and drink producers

Wednesday, 6th December, 2017 6:00pm

Taste Cork is teaming up with The Loop at Cork Airport to showcase the very best of Cork’s outstanding, locally produced food and drink products to the more than 2.3 million passengers who pass through the airport each year.

That’s handy for those who need to do some last minute Christmas shopping at the airport or those who want to buy local food and drink this festive season.

The food and drink section at The Loop at Cork Airport is being rebranded by Taste Cork to give local food producers a window to the world, helping to grow Cork’s reputation as Ireland’s centre of excellence for food and to reinforce its place on the map as a superb destination for foodies!

This new retail initiative marks another phase in the development of the innovative Taste Cork marketing programme, that brings together Cork’s vibrant artisan and local food producers, Cork-based food experts and enterprise development support from local government.

Eamon O’Donovan, Retail Operations Manager, The Loop at Cork Airport anticipates Taste Cork’s presence will help to strengthen and grow Cork’s reputation as Ireland’s home of good food and go-to destination for foodies and food tourism.

He said: “Cork is renowned for its great food and a vibrant, creative food culture that produces world-class products and puts us on the map as a go-to destination for foodies and food tourism.

“As a key gateway to Ireland, and from Ireland to the world, Cork Airport is at the heart of the Cork economy. Taste Cork is a superb example of harnessing the strengths of the whole Cork community, to build growth and create new opportunities.”

He added: “The Loop at Cork Airport, working with the Taste Cork brand, will bring our more than 2.3 million passengers a showcase of the best of Cork’s food and drink products. As we look towards the future, cohesive marketing of the Cork as a brand and finding synergies between sectors, is ever more crucial giving us a competitive edge. It helps us to drive growth, both at Cork Airport and throughout the entire region.”

In 2016, Taste Cork launched a five-year food and drink strategy for Cork. The forward-looking food policy is the result of the largest collaboration of its kind by the Local Enterprise Offices Cork, Cork City Council and Cork County Council.

It sets out to preserve and secure the future of the region’s unique and rich food heritage, working with the hugely successful local food industry to enhance Cork’s reputation as Ireland’s food capital.

Speaking at the launch of the Taste Cork new brand in The Loop at Cork Airport, Joe Burke, Assistant Head of Enterprise at the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) said: “We are delighted to be able to announce the rebranding of The Loop at Cork Airport’s Food and Drink section under the Taste Cork brand. We would like to thank Cork Airport, who facilitated this rebranding, which sends a clear signal of support to food and drink producers in Cork.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the team at The Loop at Cork Airport for their support of the initiative and also Horgan Delicatessen Supplies Ltd, who are providing fulfilment services and ensuring Cork produce is always available on shelf.”

The Taste Cork initiative is supported by Cork County Council, Cork City Council and Local Enterprise Offices in Cork.
