Perfect hair for your wedding

Thursday, 9th August, 2018 9:11am

Your hair is one of the main points of focus for your look on your big day - Carbon Hair Design run though the do’s and dont's in the leadup to your wedding day and what tips you should stick to in order to have the perfect wedding hair!

1) The first thing to consider is if your going to grow your hair or not. Carbon Hair Design, run by Annmarie Higgins and Andy Cronin, encourages its clients to be individual - not every bride needs to have a upstyle! The main thing Carbon focuses on is making you feel beautiful! If you're not going to grow your hair, keep it in great condition and make sure your colour is glossy and healthy. Play with different tones and shapes until you fall in love with your hair, a statement hair piece is always highly recommended for brides that have shorter hair.

2) Consultation is the first thing you should book with your stylist. This is when a plan is made for what you want your ideal hairstyle to be on your magical day. In the consultation, Carbon will talk about the desired shape of your hair and what your dream colour is for your wedding day.

The team at Carbon also go more in-depth with you about homecare and hair treatments, depending on what colouring processing will be done to your hair as well as the texture of your hair. Carbon Hair Design stocks a full range of Kevin Murphy hair care products, these are perfect to maximise your hair's natural beauty while helping you manage it at home and to always get that salon finish every time.

Carbon uses L’Oreal hair colour as Annmarie and Andy consider it to be the best colouring brand available.

3) If you are growing your hair longer, a lot of people make the mistake of not getting a haircut. This is not how you will grow your hair, if you want healthy lush voluminous locks then you need to make sure you book in for a haircut. Carbon recommends getting a cut every 12-14 weeks of your growing your hair as this will take off any split ends you have. Doing this in conjunction with the right home-care package prescribed for you will make your hair longer and healthier.

4) Once you have your dress and accessories bought, your next step is to book a trial for your hair.

Bring some imagery of what hairstyles you like. This will help in designing a bespoke style for you that you're comfortable with and makes you feel like as fabulous as Beyoncé at the Met Gala! Also book your makeup trial for the same day, this will give you a full idea of what your going to be like on your wedding day.

Day of your hair trial

* Wash and blowdry your hair the night before

* If you're having a makeup trial the same day, book it for after your hair trial

* The trial is just an idea of what can be done, your stylist might try 2-3 different styles within the given time

* If you're not happy with a style, say it - your stylist won't get offended

* Be fussy, wedding photos last a lifetime so make sure you're 100 per cent happy with how you look and feel

* Bring any accessories you're wearing such as your veil, earrings, hair piece etc

* Take photos!

* Book a second trial if you want to try different styles

Day of your wedding:

Have your hair washed and blowdried the night before.

Normally the morning is an early start with hair and makeup, so try and get some rest the night before as it’s going to be a long day. The most important thing is for you to sit back and enjoy the day!

Wedding trends for 2018/19

- Simple ponytails are beautiful for autumn weddings. This is a style that is modern but also timeless looking. It's very fashion forward and can be personalised to any brides hair texture and length

- Classic styles for winter weddings tend to be statement structured styles and will always work better at that time of year with Irish weather not being ideal for soft textured styles. Keep it sleek and soft for a effortless look.

- Braids are huge for spring weddings and the texture is perfect for spring weddings. By using braids, you can have it off your face to make sure your style will last all day and still be rocking the dance floor at the end of the night.

- Loose waves are always popular for a summer ceremony. This is the most understated look but the most difficult to last in Irish weather! If you're planning to have your hair down on your wedding day, and weather is not on your side that morning, make sure you have a second style you're happy with, in case you're worried about your hair lasting.
