Christmas shop now open

Wednesday, 15th November, 2017 5:54pm

Griffins officially opened their Christmas store on 8 November with a wonderful festive day that was enjoyed by all.

Did you know that each year Margaret Griffin starts the hunt for each piece in January?

Many months are spent choosing each individual piece, creating a theme and planning the look to ensure a magical Christmas store welcomes you at Griffins. With thousands of products and styles, a huge amount of thought and effort is put into the shop each year.

The decorations are assembled into themes to suit a plethora of tastes from white romance to into the woods to glowing gold to name a few.

As you enter the Christmas store through the magnificent crystal arches, you enter the white romance theme. The white frosted pieces with innovative lights and large ribbons bring a beautiful romantic ambiance to your home.

Each theme will take you on a unique journey. Each theme is also brilliantly portrayed with many props including a woodland themed wallpaper.

The mannequin ladies’ skirts are handcrafted by Margaret using only Christmas floristry, ribbons and pieces from the Christmas store.

If you too would like to create a unique festive display in your home this year, Griffins would highly recommend that you join Margaret at one of her complementary demonstrations this festive season.

Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in November at 11am, Margaret hosts free demos where she reveals many of her top tips and ideas to help create your own festive display. For full details go to griffinsgardencentre.ie.

Flower of Christmas

This is the time when we say Christmas has officially arrived here at Griffins because our Fantasia Cylamen has just arrived up from the nursery.

We call it Santa's cyclamen with its dual colours of cherry red and white. The bi-coloured petal, whose colour starts at the base of the flower and spreads out towards the top, leaves the border of the flower really white to form a surprising contrast. Just like a santa suit!

These are definitely one of the toughest cyclamen available. The Metis Fantasia stands out in uniformity, flowering time and plant habit. Due to their short stems, the blossoms will last a very long time. For me, this is the plant that I couldn't be without during the winter or for Christmas. It's probably the plant we use the most in our winter containers.

Top tip: buy early as these fare extremely popular with both the Griffins staff and regular customers.

Our customers love the combination of white heaters and Fantasia Cyclamen. The bright white heather bloomers enhance the red and white of the cyclamen blossoms.

For a special display, I would recommend adding some micro LED copper wire lights.

If you would like us to create a festive creation basket or pot, please bring your container to Griffins of Dripsey and our design team will plant it up.

On Sunday 19 November at 5pm, the team at Griffins will host its Christmas lighting ceremony. The beautiful voices of the Macroom choir will illuminate the Lee Valley with festive carol singing.
