The Christmas berry tree

An exciting new plant to brighten your home or patio at Christmas is the miniature Christmas berry tree - a truly spectacular display of beautiful red berries. And it comes gift wrapped!

It is actually an apple tree and the red berries are crab apples. The berries remain attached until well into January.

This beautiful plant will have a real festive look in your hall or plant it in a pot at your front door. The Christmas berry tree requires little to no watering indoors, so it’s an ideal plant, especially for those with a busy lifestyle. Add a set of battery operated lights and you can have a unique Christmas tree.

After Christmas, it may be planted in the garden or in a patio pot. It will produce beautiful flowers in spring and gorgeous berries for display again next year.

The Christmas berry tree is an ornamental crab apple tree: Malus Red Sentinel. The Christmas berry tree is grown on a dwarfing rootstock which keeps it small and encourages the tree to produce an abundance of berries.

This tree will remain small - less than one metre high. It will produce eautiful flowers every spring followed by red miniature apples every autumn/winter.

Buxus pyramids

The popular buxus pyramid is an ideal evergreen for Christmas displays with many homes in Cork using these Christmas tree-shaped plants as a festive feature by decorating with lights. Many people see the buxus pyramid as the perfect outdoor plant to decorate for the festive season.

It’s a shrub that will look well 12 months of the year. I love to add a little extra colour in the pot by underplanting with red cyclamen, creating a truly classical display at your door.

Cyclamen hanging baskets

To create the full look, add two cyclamen hanging baskets with a silver foliage plant in the centre. Hang a wreath and decorate to match your plants, making a festive welcome for all your guests. Griffins have wreaths of all sizes to suit your door, including a large range of pre-lit wreaths with battery operated LEDs.

On Sunday 2 December at Griffins, enjoy two great choirs carolling for charity: Ceol na Laoi at 12 noon and Scrubs (the CUH choir) at 3pm.

Nordman fir real Christmas trees now available at Griffins. These trees have a wonderfully symmetrical shape and full body. A glossy emerald green, soft to touch and best of all, non-shed. See instore at Griffins for our full range of trees.
