Landlords in Cork have been invited to take part in a new voluntary landlord accreditation scheme.

Since launching last September, more than 70 landlords have participated in the Residential Tenancies Board's (RTB) course and received accreditation.

The course will provide participating landlords with a comprehensive understanding of their rights and responsibilities, as well as information on best practice in managing tenancies from beginning to end and dispute prevention.

Commenting on the benefits of the scheme Caren Gallagher, Head of Communications and Research with the RTB said: “We recognise the invaluable role landlords have in providing homes for people across the country. We also recognise that the legal framework governing the rental sector is complex and continually evolving. It can be difficult for landlords to manage tenancies and keep up to date with the policy and legislative changes in the sector.

“The BetterLet RTB Accredited Landlord scheme will allow participating landlords to set themselves apart in the rental sector and be recognised as professionals providing a high-quality, necessary, service. Accredited landlords will also be better informed and more confident in their ability to apply and adhere to the regulations under which they must operate.”

Ms Gallagher continued: “The RTB is a resource to both landlords and tenants. We believe that education and the provision of accurate information is the best way to prevent disputes, however, should one arise we are a fair and impartial body that can offer help.”

Participant’s accreditation will be subject to a short assessment at the end of the course. Once awarded, accreditation is valid for two years.

The free course takes place on Saturday 23 March from 10am-5pm in the Clayton Hotel on Lapp's Quay.
