Fashionistas from across Cork descended on the luxurious Capella Hotel in Castlemartyr recently to attend the acclaimed annual Brown Thomas Autumn/Winter showcase and view the key designs for the upcoming season. The catwalk show opened with a selection from the Max Mara collection which like Ralph Lauren and Karen Millan clearly embraced that stunning tailored look for autumn/winter 08 with sharp lines, high waists and tailored blazers dominating their collections. The dress, like in the previous season, was the single most important style on display on the night with many of the designs from M by Missoni, Diane Von Furstenberg and Marc by Marc Jacobs boasting very feminine, floaty or structured styles in silk, satin, jersey or lurex. Many of the dresses on display boldly boasted strong prints or sparkling embellishments which added further to their gorgeously 'girlie' appeal. As regards colour purples, berry tones, pinks and orange played a big part in the show with many of the contemporary and classical designers playing with lots of colour in this season's collections. What of course was particularly striking to see again was that fabulous combination of pink and orange seen at a number of houses and in particular at Whistles. Perhaps surprisingly, Ralph Lauren like many other designers has embraced lemon for the season ahead which sat beautifully among the typically darker winter collections. The highlight on the night for many of course was the catwalk finale which boasted some of the most beautiful designs from the International Rooms in Brown Thomas Dublin. Of particular interest were the stunning designs from Balenciaga, Roberto Cavalli and Versace. This year's event was held in conjunction with the National Children's Research Foundation in Crumlin and all proceeds on the night were donated to this very worthy show. |
