New research has indicated that employers are failing to show concern for their employees health. According to a study commissioned by Quinn-healthcare just 25 per cent of employers show concern for their employees' mental or physical health. Less than 30 per cent of those surveyed believed their employer was proactive in providing information on workplace issues such as eye strain and back problems while just one quarter of employers provide employees with advice on stress management. Only 22 per cent per cent of employers provide healthy snacks in the canteen or vending machines. The vast majority of adults take less than 45 minutes for lunch with almost 10 per cent taking no lunch break at all. Commenting on the survey figures, Sarah O'Neill, Occupational Health Advisor (RGN, RM, OHA) with Quinn-healthcare, said that people seeking to manage their stress levels over the coming months should try to ensure they are getting the right amount of sleep, try to improve their time management and take regular exercise. Stress is defined as a temporary imbalance in a person's emotional state and behaviour. Its important to remember that we all function better with a healthy level of stress, too little does not give us the stimulation necessary to work at the best of our ability," she said. |
