Question: I'm a great believer in vitamin C for keeping colds and flu at bay but I'm not keen on taking tablets. What do you recommend?
Answer: John Philpott and his team from Here's Health says, Vitamin C is without doubt an important nutrient that the body needs on a daily basis. Almost all animals and many plants make their own vitamin C, but we humans have lost the ability to do this. In addition to its powerful antioxidant activity, it is, as you say widely recognised for its anti-viral action and can help to prevent and reduce the duration of a cold, especially in high doses.

Vitamin C is found naturally in many fruits and vegetables, especially citrus fruits and green leafy vegetables, but diet alone is unlikely to provide the amount needed to keep the cold virus at bay, so supplementing your diet is a good idea.

If you're not keen on taking tablets there is a tastier option. Higher Nature's award-winning Fizzy C is an effervescent, additive-free tablet that fizzes away in water leaving a delicious, lemon-tasting drink that should go down a treat. And because it's naturally sweetened with fruit sugar and contains no artificial chemicals, it's actually better for you. Fizzy C is also suitable for children and a great alternative if they too are not too keen on taking standard vitamin C tablets. Simply add 1-2 Fizzy C tablets (per day) to a little water or juice (children aged 1 to 8 years take 1 tablet a day). Each tablet provides 500mg of vitamin C.
