Question : I suffer with tension headaches that I'm sure are caused by stress. What do you recommend?
Answer: John Philpott from Here's Health says, Typical symptoms include mild to moderate pain on both sides of your head, a feeling of tightening around your head and/or muscle tenderness around your head, scalp, jaw or neck. For most people tension headaches tend to get better on their own, but if you are able to identify contributing factors, such as stress, then you can help to keep them at bay or indeed prevent them from getting any worse. Daily exercise can really make a difference. It's a great way of releasing pent up stress and frustration and it causes the brain to produce more of the 'happy hormones', endorphins, so should cheer you up. Try to grab at least 20 minutes a day. Structured relaxation techniques such as yoga and Pilates can also help to relieve high stress levels. And to wind down after a busy day, a magnesium supplement may help. The fourth most common metal found in the body, magnesium is an incredibly important mineral, responsible for the function of over 300 enzymes. It also helps to maintain healthy muscle function and may prove particularly beneficial when winding down at night. True Food Magnesium from Higher Nature is easily digested and one of the most potent magnesium supplements available. Remember, any persistent pain should be investigated by your GP. For further advice, ask at your local health shop. |
