QUESTION: We're travelling to Cyprus in May and I don't want the holiday to be marred by stomach upsets and diarrhoea. What do you recommend? ANSWER: John Philpott and his team at Here's Health says; you're more likely to fall ill abroad, especially when travelling to hotter countries, simply because it is more difficult to preserve food. Reduce your chances of falling ill by peeling all fruit, making sure your meat is cooked thoroughly and by avoiding buffet food that has been kept luke-warm. Only drink bottled or canned beverages and don't assume the tap water in your hotel is safe to drink. And finally, go prepared. One holiday essential I always pack in my suitcase is grapefruit seed extract. Scientists have established that it has a broad-spectrum anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-parasitic action that may help with several types of infection. Unlike conventional antibiotics, which work against bacteria only, grapefruit seed extract has been shown to inactivate viruses, yeasts, fungi, parasites and worms, as well as bacteria. This makes it a useful remedy in many respects, but especially when travelling abroad where you may be more prone to infection, parasites, diarrhoea and/or food poisoning. One of my favourite preparations is Citricidal from Higher Nature, a liquid grapefruit seed extract concentrate that can be used both internally and externally. It can also be used as a topical cleanser on minor skin irritations and athlete's foot (but not on open wounds), or simply to keep hands and face clean. Avoid eye contact and always dilute before use. Citricidal is also available in tablet form but neither tablets nor concentrate are suitable for citrus allergy sufferers. For further advice ask at your local health shop. |
