While the noughties will no doubt go down as the decade where women embraced shorter, sleeker and more carefully styled locks, a big change is now coming and as we step into the final year of the decade, hair is set to get bigger, bolder and bouncier.
The look itself is easy to achieve with a little know how and many will be pleased to hear that it involves a lot less maintenance then the bobs and pixie-looks seen over the past few years.
Celebrity stylist Danilo, who has worked with superstars such as Gwen Stefani and styled hair for Christina Aguilera, Madonna and Deborah Harry says that before you set out to get the look you should make sure your hair is in tip top condition. "I always start by assessing you hair's health, as damaged hair can look lank and lacklustre. Start your hairs recovery by treating it to a nourishing and volumising shampoo and conditioner; these products are formulated explicitly not to weight down hair whist restoring you hair's healthy look. Then you are ready to wear this seasons volumised trends," he said.
Danilo's top tips
Step One
Danilo said he often sees hair that is week and flat and advised that by using the right shampoo and conditioner – such as the new Pantene Volume & Body range you have a much better chance of achieving Volume naturally. "Cleansing is the new treatment. I recommend cleansing your hair thoroughly to remove residue and build-up caused by pollution in your environment and the use of styling products. Shampoo your hair thoroughly using warm water massaging your scalp and then rinse. Now you have a clean and healthy base to build your natural volume."
Step Two
"If you must use a finishing product, I recommend using a hairspray such as the Pantene Volume & Body Magnifying Hairspay which is specifically formulated with a micro-fine spray system to give your hair the increased freedom to move, without sacrificing the healthy looking volume. Try spraying it into the air and walking through the ensuing cloud. Or, spray it onto your hands and then run them over your tresses.
Step Three
"Avoid flipping you hair over to blow-dry as it may give your hair width but not height and often results in an undesirable end look. Instead, for maximum oomph, lift sections of hair toward the sky as you blow dry, directing warm air toward you scalp this sets the roots and dries them in an upright and lifted position without changing the overall style of your hair.
"And don't forget if you are going to backcomb, instead of using a comb use a paddle brush which will damage you hair less as the bristles are spaced apart more widely," he said.
