Major health issues including infection and immunity will be the focus for discussion at this year's second College of Medicine & Health Joint UCC/Cork University Teaching Hospitals Health Research Day. This conference aims to stimulate co-operation across disciplines and professions, between clinicians and scientists, and help promote and strengthen clinical research. It also encourages the development of a comprehensive research-based regional and national health strategy. Keynote addresses will be presented on a wide range of topics including MRSA, TB, Vaccination, and the links between food, nutrition and health by national and international experts including Professor Gary French from the Department of Infection at King's College London and St Thomas' Hospital who will discuss the significant reduction in MRSA Infections in a London Teaching Hospital and Professor Kevin Cashman, Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, UCC who will discuss the evolutionary origins of bovine tuberculosis, and its wild and domestic hosts. The annual Research Day, which takes place on June 6, provides an excellent opportunity for participants to share knowledge, gain new understanding and to strengthen connections between clinicians and researchers. All Health Care Professionals, scientists, are invited to attend and General Medical Practitioners are particularly welcome. Following on the success of last year's conference, a high level of local and national interest is expected.
